Tônico Saúde

The Head Way agency proposed we create a fantasy world inspired by the universe of video games and high adrenaline adventures where the villains would be anaemia, lethargy and a lack of appetite to launch the child restoring Tônico Saúde.
The complexity of the script became evident while still in the pre-production phase. Here it took its final form, containing all necessary information, capturing children's interest with a dynamic rhythm and directing parents' attention to the benefits of the syrup, ready for the product's release.

Texture and colors study

While Zero Production's personnel, under director Cláudio Veríssimo's baton selected the child cast, the wardrobe and all elements necessary for the filming with its countless tricks, in the studio of Animaholics our design team driven by animation director Rodrigo Washington, created the storyboard and explored the creative possibilities of the script. Still, even before filming began, the design phase took almost one week. More than one hundred sketches were produced that would define the visual look of the film.

The design of the scenery was inspired by the paintings of North American artist Rodney Matthews who is one of the masters of fantasy illustration and science fiction from the 70's and 80's. The modelling was especially difficult and several techniques were utilised because the scenes and monsters all had quite organic and rounded forms being very complex to acquire in 3D animation.
The modelling of the monster's bodies was achieved through the modern resource of surface subdivision that allows you to maintain a lighter three-dimensional mesh to facilitate the ease of animation while only needing to increase details at the time of final rendering. The faces of the monsters were created by the technique of patch modelling in order to increase the expression details more.

three-dimensional modelling, textures were being created in Photoshop to be later added to the models, giving them their final appearance.
The animation of the characters was done via the plug-in, Character Studio, available for 3DS Max, the most popular 3D software in the world and that used by Animaholics. This plug-in allows us to create a skeleton inside our characters for the deformation of the Wireframe, allowing a faster and more realistic animation.
The editing was another challenge, because it involved several scenes containing camera movement, which make it more difficult to interact with the animated elements and several masks used to cut out the child actors and also to remove any undesirable elements from the scenes; many of these masks had to be cut out frame by frame.

During the editing several corrections were made to the colour balance to achieve the best integration between the scenes captured on 16mm and the animation.
In the end it was almost forty days of work, perspiration, a lot of technique and creativity that resulted in a memorable commercial that launched Tônico Saúde and transformed it into a champion of the public and sales.
